Nibbles n' Knowledge: Paddling Through History - The Lake Mendota Canoes with Amy L. Rosebrough

Dugout canoes representing 5,000 years of Indigeous maritime history have been found beneath the waters of Lake Mendota, within sight of Wisconsin's State Capitol. Join State Archaeologist Amy L. Rosebrough as she discusses new discoveries and new understandings about the canoes and their place in Wiconsin's Indigenous transportation networks.

Dr. Amy L. Rosebrough is the Wisconsin State Archaeologist, in the State Historic Preservation Office of the Wisconsin Historical Society. In her current position at the Wisconsin Historical Society, she manages archaeological and burial sites data, assists Wisconsin's citizens with archaeological questions, and serves asa subject matter expert.

We will serve light appetizers and have a cash bar from 5:00 PM - 6:00 PM, presentation will run from 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM. Registration required by 9/9/26. Program is held at the North Lakeland Discovery Center Main Lodge. $17/Non-Member, $14/Member and $20 at the door for anyone who has not pre-registered. Thursday, 9/10/2026, 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM.

Discounted admission is available to volunteers who sign up through iVolunteer to help with the program. Volunteer opportunities include kitchen and bar help, bringing in appetizers or desserts. If you would like to bring food, please claim a food slot on iVolunteer so we can plan quantities and avoid food waste!  Walk-Ins who bring food but are not registered in iVolunteer will not receive the reduced admission fee.
