Description
Step into the miniature marvels of nature! From the velvety green carpets of moss to the intricate patterns of lichens and the drifting beauty of zooplankton—this program series reveals the unseen worlds that keep our landscapes alive. Discover how these tiny forms weave together the fabric of the natural world.
During a guided hike through Van Vliet Hemlocks State Natural Area, join Alex Graeff as we will encounter and discuss various lichens. You’ll learn about lichen anatomy, reproduction, substrates, growth habits, ecology, and communities. We will apply that knowledge to recognize and identify various species while enjoying and experiencing a fine example of old-growth hemlock-hardwood forest.
This program was generously sponsored by Friends of Van Vliet Hemlocks. Space is limited and registration is required by 4/29/26. Registered participants will receive an email prior to the hike with additional information, including where to meet. Friday 10:00 am - 12:00 pm.
