Summary

Explore the natural world through outdoor adventures. Depending on the season, we will hike, bike, ski or snowshoe while learning from Northwoods experts – naturalists, historians, geologists – in an engaging, recreational approach to nature education.

Description

Join local historian, Jim Bokern (Manitowish Waters Historical Society), and a Discovery Center Naturalist for a snowshoe on the 6-Pause Portage Trail and logging era ice road. Learn about the people who created and used this historically significant trail, linking the Manitowish River and Mercer Lake, through beautiful forests and wetlands. The snowshoe is about 2 miles in length and the trail is moderately strenuous, with brush and uneven ground, and may be difficult for people with balance issues.

Prior to the hike, registered participants will be emailed a link to view a bonus presentation by Jim, as well as the trailhead location and other program details. Space is limited and pre-registration is required by 2/19/26 Saturday 10:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. $24/Member of NLDC or MWHS and $30/Non-Member. Saturday 10:00 am - 1:30 pm.
