Description

Please join us at the North Lakeland Discovery Center for the Northwoods Seed Exchange Potluck.  Bring your friends, a dish to share, your recycled containers for winter-sowing, any seeds you would like to donate, and your best gardening tips!  We will have free seeds available that have been collected and donated through the Northwoods Seed Exchange, and no, you do not have to have donated or bring any seeds to get seeds!  We will also be teaching how to winter-sow plants and use this time to winter-sow seeds for the Discovery Center or for you to take home.

What is Winter-sowing? We will follow Trudi Davidoff's Winter Sowing Method. In simplest terms, we turn a recycled container into a greenhouse, sow the seeds inside in potting mix, leave the containers outside, and the seeds will germinate when mother nature says its time. This method is very easy, low labor, and produces some of the hardiest seedlings for planting. It is ideal for many native plants which require stratification. Please bring clear or translucent plastic containers that will hold at least 3 inches of soil.

This event is free, but registration is preferred by 3/10/25.  The event is on Wednesday, March 12th from 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm, and will be held in the Discovery Center's Historic YCC Lodge.
