Description
Join Stephanie Shaw, PhD, Northern Lakes Fisheries Research Scientist from the Office of Applied Science, Northern Highland Fishery Research Area for this month's program. Fish are cold blooded animals which allows for more flexibility in their metabolism and growth than warm blooded species. How large an individual fish can grow or what the size structure of a population looks like is heavily dependent on the density of the population in a lake. Density is influenced by many factors including lake productivity and habitat, prey availability, survival and mortality. In our waterbodies humans are one of the primary predators of many fish species influencing their mortality rate and density. Anglers are an important tool used to achieve desired goals for growth and size structure of populations. Angler behavior and preferences have changed overtime influencing how some of our common northern fish species grow and function.
We will serve light appetizers and have a cash bar from 5-6 pm, presentation will run 6-7 pm. Registration required by 10/9/24. Program is held at the North Lakeland Discovery Center Main Lodge. $17/Non-Member, $14/Member and $20 at the door for anyone who has not pre-registered.
