Description
Wild rice is an important piece of Wisconsin’s history and the ecology of the Northwoods. Join us in the classroom to learn about wild rice and then we will take a short field trip with our canoes to a nearby lake to explore wild rice habitat, demonstrate how to harvest, and practice harvesting wild rice.
Educational program and canoe trip is open to everyone but only Wisconsin residents may harvest wild rice in the state of Wisconsin. Harvesters aged 17-64 must purchase and possess a wild rice harvesting license through the WI DNR prior to the program they want to harvest rice or be in a canoe harvesting rice. Contact jamie@discoverycenter.net for guidance on how to apply for a license.
Registered participants will meet at North Lakeland Discovery Center. Directions and a list of what to bring will be sent prior to the program. Saturday, 12 - 3 PM. Registration is required by 08/22. $30/Non-Member and $25/Member.
