Description

Registration has ended for this program.

In addition to their natural beauty, the waterfalls and scenic overlooks along the southern Lake Superior margin expose rocks that range in age from 1.0 to over 2.2 billion years old.  The bedrock is well exposed in many localities due to widespread erosion from the last glacial advance.  Field trip stops will show the strong influence of geology on the development of Interstate, Superior, and Potato Falls.  An additional overview stop at Corrigans Lookout shows glacially scoured pillow lavas erupted in an ancient sea.  While none of the trails to the falls is more than ¾ of a mile, this trip is rated moderately strenuous to strenuous, due to terrain around fall accessibility.  Our hope is to all travel together in our van.  Registered participants will be sent instructions and a list of what to bring prior to the trip.  Registration required by 10/4.  $65 ($55 members).
