Description

Join local Naturalist Zach Wilson from Northwoods Learning Adventures LLC as we explore the Gile Flowage.  Located in northeastern Iron County, Wisconsin, within the Lake Superior watershed, the 3,384-acre Gile Flowage is fed by the west fork of the Montreal River and six other tributary streams. Twenty-six miles of shoreline, numerous protected bays, and large outcroppings of exposed bedrock, this is the closest you’ll get to a Canadian canoeing experience but without the long drive.  Islands, exposed granite, and natural shorelines covered in Canada yew certainly transports one to a place resembling the Quetico of Canada. The Gile Flowage is surrounded by miles of public access shoreline making it a unique destination for a backcountry destination feel. A hidden gem tucked away from the crowds.  Strenuous level is low, this will be a casual paddle.  Canoes/PDFs provided.  Registration is required by 8/10.  Registered participants will be emailed directions to put-in and other trip information ahead of time.  $40 ($30 members)
