Description
The Turtle Chain of Lakes tour series will explore the unique environment and history of these legendary waters. This will be presented in multiple canoe trips through July, including an exploration of Turtle Creek from Winchester to Cedar Lake and journeys in Rock, North and South Turtle Lakes. The second in the Turtle Lake Chain Series, this trip will be an exploration of Rock and North Turtle Lake. Sitting right next to the Continental Watershed Divide these lakes tell an unique environmental and human story. First cut over by The Turtle Lake Lumber Company, then destined to be home to a golf course until an economic downturn changed plans. Nature has since rebounded and cabins now dot the shores. These lakes serve as a prime example of citizen lead-science based lake management. Outdoor guide, Blaze Burton, and a naturalist from the North Lakeland Discovery Center will be there to interpret the stories passed on by both nature and man-made landmarks. Tour will be about 5 miles of flat water or about 3 hours, suitable for beginner paddlers.
Canoes/PDFs provided.
Registration is required by 7/6. Registered participants will be emailed directions to put-in and other trip information ahead of time. $40 ($30 members)
