State Natural Areas Series: Johnson Lake Barrens and Springs

Each month this summer we will visit a different local state natural area. This month we visit the Johnson Lake Barrens and Springs. This unique site "contains open communities of pine barrens and bracken grassland perched on the sandy glacial outwash plain that gently slopes toward the lake," along with a variety of springs, plants and wildlife. We'll visit the site, explore the trails and discuss the wonderful ecology of the area.
