Description

Join us for a morning on the Turtle Flambeau Flowage, learning about the life history and behavior of the Common Loon. We will spend some time observing loons in the field, and discuss the various needs of loons during the nesting and post-hatching/chick-rearing periods of the breeding season. We’ll also discuss how these needs have been affected by various human activities, and the various efforts and practices that continue to be used to enhance the survival and reproductive success of loons during this critical time of the year.

As a behavioral ecologist, Jay Mager has spent ~35 years learning about various aspects of the breeding and wintering biology of Common Loons, and is currently involved with a number of organizations and efforts dedicated to conserving and managing Common Loons in North America.

Participants will meet at the launch site on the flowage.  Information about the trip will be emailed to participants prior to the event.  Space is limited and registration is required by 7/6/2026. $50/Non-Member and $40/Member.
