Description
The vocalizations of the Common Loon are a distinct sound that symbolize the northern wilderness. However, we are only now beginning to learn more about the information that loons are communicating to one another with these calls. Join us to for an evening to learn more about these vocalizations, and in particular the information communicated by the territorial ‘yodel’ that is produced by male Common Loons, from the work of Dr. Jay Mager, a behavioral ecologist (Ohio Northern University) who has studied Common Loons for ~35 years. As a behavioral ecologist, Jay Mager has spent ~35 years learning about various aspects of the breeding and wintering biology of Common Loons, and is currently involved with a number of organizations and efforts dedicated to conserving and managing Common Loons in North America.
Registration required by 7/5/26. This program will be held in the Lodge at the Discovery Center. $10/Non-Member and $7/Member. Tuesday 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm.
