Description
If you need a wilderness lifeguarding certification, look no further! The course trains outdoor professionals, educators, organizations, and wilderness trip leaders to function as a lifeguard in a wilderness setting. In this scenario-based training, participants will learn how to effectively manage risks in remote aquatic environments, how to quickly assess an emergency, develop an emergency response and execute a rescue based on the conditions of the environment, and how to demonstrate skills like flipping a canoe in the water.

Participants will be required to demonstrate swimming competency in freestyle (front crawl) and/or breaststroke. In addition they must demonstrate a strong towing kick using a whip kick, scissors kick or egg beater kick.

Participants will be required to perform a surface dive and swim to a depth of 8 feet or greater and recover an object in a lake environment.

Participants must have a valid first aid/CPR certification in order to take this course.
This 2-day training will be held on June 9-10, 2026 from 9:00am-5:00pm at the North Lakeland Discovery Center. Lunch will be provided both days. Participants must be at least 17 years of age to enroll. Upon completion of this course, participants will receive certification good for 2 years.
