Description
Experience the quiet magic of fall in one of Wisconsin’s last old-growth hemlock-hardwood forests. Join Discovery Center Naturalist Jenna for a free interpretive hike through the Van Vliet Hemlocks State Natural Area, where towering trees, rich biodiversity, and the changing season set the stage for discovery. As we wander the forest trails, we’ll explore the ecology and history of this ancient landscape while observing the signs of seasonal transition—from shifting leaf colors and late-blooming plants to the ways wildlife prepares for the colder months ahead. This is a perfect opportunity to connect with nature, learn something new, and experience the beauty of the Northwoods in autumn.
This hike is sponsored by the Friends of Van Vliet hemlocks and is free of charge. Space is limited and registration is required by 10/2/2025. Saturday 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm. Additional information on where to meet will be provided to registered participants prior to the hike.
