Description
Large destructive wildfires were once common in the lake states and fires are again becoming more likely. What can we learn by more closely examining historical fires in terms their ecology (e.g., benefits). This talk will examine fire history over 100s of years use this to build more resilient forests and communities.
Jed is an ecologist with the WI DNR. His research interests range from individual species attributes to landscape ecology with a unifying theme of understanding how forces of climate and disturbance drive ecological change and how we can in turn manage for resilient systems. Much of his research if focused on fire ecology fire in relation to climate and land-use over the past ca 500 years. Jed considers himself lucky to spend his time asking questions and through applied research to assist in the management of Wisconsin’s many treasures.
